- Shaping Aluminum Profiles: The primary purpose of direct extrusion presses is to shape aluminum billets into various profiles. These profiles can have different cross-sectional shapes and dimensions, depending on the design of the extrusion die.
- Large-Scale Production: Direct extrusion presses are used for high-volume production of aluminum profiles. They can process a significant amount of aluminum billets continuously, making them suitable for industrial-scale manufacturing.
How it Works:
- Billet Preparation: The process begins with the loading of aluminum billets into the extrusion press. These billets are usually cut to the required length and preheated in a billet heating furnace before being fed into the press.
- Container and Ram: The direct extrusion press consists of a container that holds the billet and a hydraulic ram. The ram is positioned behind the billet and exerts force to push the billet through the die.
- Die Design: The extrusion die, located at the front end of the container, has an opening with the desired cross-sectional shape of the final product. As the billet is forced through the die, it takes on the shape of the die opening.
- Extrusion Process: The hydraulic ram applies pressure to the billet, forcing it through the die opening. The aluminum undergoes plastic deformation and emerges from the die as a continuous profile with the same shape as the die opening.
- Cooling and Cutting: After the extrusion process, the aluminum profile is cooled to retain its shape and properties. It is then cut to the desired length using a cut-to-length machine.
